Why Scouting? With so many activities, sports, and groups available to our youth today, why bother participating in Cub Scouts? Scouting provides a unique opportunity for our young boys and girls to learn skills and experience challenges that they would not otherwise have. Cub Scouting is not only about s’mores and belt loops – those are just added benefits.
Having worked with male and female Scouts ages 12-18 I can say without a doubt that Scouting gives these kids a jumpstart on becoming fantastic young adults. I have now witnessed three girls earn the rank of Eagle and I can say they were some of the most dedicated and focused individuals I have met.
The Scouting program has specific objectives, commonly referred to as the “Aims of Scouting.” They are character development, leadership development, citizenship training, and personal fitness and our program is designed to achieve these Aims
Earlier this month I had the opportunity to meet with other Scout Leaders in the Potawatomi Area Council to discuss how we Packs can provide activities and programs to the maximum number of youth possible. During that meeting, I learned that our Council had the 4th best retention numbers in the country! As one of the strongest Packs in the council, Pack 63 is doing a fantastic job of what we set out to do. Keep up the good work, and please help us by spreading the word. Invite a family to one of our Summer Activities.
